Catou

As a child, Catou had a fascination with colours, spending hours observing the changing shades of the sky, the subtle variations of the leaves throughout the seasons and the bursts of light on the water. Living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, this passion for colours grew during her first trip to Brazil, a country where colours seemed more vivid, more intense, and almost palpable. It was a revelation for her. The beaches, the exotic fruit and vegetable markets, the magic of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, the colourful facades of Salvador de Bahia, all of this nourished her artistic soul. At the beginning, her works were instinctive, translating her wonder at this explosion of colours.

Each brushstroke responded to a visceral need to capture the very essence of life. Her style evolved over time. She began to structure her compositions and moved from the instinctive to the figurative. But always, colours remained at the heart of her work, like an indelible signature. As the years passed, Catou felt the need to push her artistic exploration further. She then turned to geometric abstraction, a style that allowed her to play freely with shapes and colours. Her paintings became complex compositions of lines and forms, where each colour found its place, a celebration of the beauty of a living world. Lately, she has returned to the elegance and harmony of the human figure, by composing paintings from one or more characters, which she makes evolve in a set of geometric constructions.
