LE VERRE D'EAU

"The Glass of Water"

Oil on Canvas - 61 X 50

Inanimate objects have always intrigued her, as if it were possible to make them alive. In fact, when Catou was little, she hid the smallest piece of paper so that it would not be thrown away… thinking that it had a soul. Choosing the subjects carefully, she tried to create compositions that would hid light them. Then with her brushes, she sought to transcend the simple representation of things to exalt their form and colour. This is how she executed several still life, wanting the figs, the melon, the orange, the knife, the earthenware or other objects to pulse with an inner life and not be banal. Her intention was not to embellish reality but to show it as it was in all its beauty and complexity. She painted them as witnesses to the fragility and resilience of human existence.
